Pub-Merchandising

Although there are a variety of factors that businesses must consider when attempting to ensure that their companies experience continual growth and expansion, advertising is particularly important. This is the case for every industry, including the pub industry.

If you own or work within a pub and are interested in maximizing profits through the implementation of effective advertising strategies, the tips and techniques listed below can be of great advantage to you.

Pub Merchandising & Point-of-Sales

Although broadly defined, merchandising is basically the act of promoting the sales of goods and services, especially through presentation within retail outlets. While you may not be inclined to think of a pub as a retail outlet, pubs fall within this category as a result of the fact that they sell drinks and foods. There are a variety of effective merchandising strategies you can implement to advertise and sell your goods. Some of them include:

Pub Merchandising

A. Target The Customer’s Range Of Vision.

As many marketing experts know, the right-hand side of a consumer’s vision is the best place to launch an advertising campaign because this is the area they are most likely to see and subsequently remember. (The middle or center vision positions can be used as well, but adopting this approach will be substantively less effective.) Since the right-hand field of vision is the most used by your prospective customer, placing advertisements as well as goods and products in this area can help increase your conversion rates.

B. Focus On Hot Spots.

Hot spots are the areas of your pub from which people are most likely to make a purchasing decision. One of the most important things to keep in mind when focusing on where your hot spots are is that “eye level is buy level.” This phrase points towards the fact that goods and products which can be clearly and easily seen are more likely to be purchased. With this idea in mind, remember that goods and products located at 3 feet and 7 feet high are highly visible to your prospective customers. Thus placing your goods at these hot spots would be advantageous and advisable.

C. Avoid Cold Spots.

Cold spots are the areas of your pub where people are least likely to look. These areas should be avoided at all costs when you begin implementing your advertising strategy. One cold spot to avoid is the bottom right. Since this is the case, consider placing pictures in these areas or using them for storage space.

D. Make Use Of Impact Displays.

Impact displays can be incredibly effective when you’re ready to start increasing sales. Impact displays are basically bulk displays that involve placing two or more of a single product right next to each other. One research study found that placing two containers of a popular vodka side by side resulted in an 11% increase in conversion. There are a plethora of aesthetically appealing ways that you can make use of impact displays, so consider experimenting with horizontal and/or vertical stacking of your goods and products.

E. Group Related Products Together.

Another great way to make your pub merchandising campaign effective is to group related products together. For example, place your danishes near coffee since this beverage is a popular compliment for the pastry.

F. Create A “New Product” Area.

As many advertising experts know, people are attracted to the concept of newness. This includes the creation and distribution of new products. When customers frequent pubs where new products are constantly being featured, their dining or lounging experience is enhanced. In recognizing this reality, it would be advantageous for you to create a new product area where customers can always go when they’re interested in trying something new.

G. Gain Product Knowledge.

In many cases, you will find that a prospective customer is interested in making a purchase yet wants to know a little bit more about the product before doing so. If you or your staff cannot provide them with the information they want, you will likely discourage conversion. Since this is the case, take the time to learn as much as possible about your products in order to increase conversion rates.

Although you may think that effectively advertising the goods and products in your pub will be difficult, this is not the case. By implementing some or all of the actionable pub merchandising tips listed above, you will likely find yourself experiencing greater conversion rates than ever. Good luck!
